COMESA/LLPI Achieves QMS and EMS Certification!!!

COMESA/Leather and Leather Products Institute is proud to announce that, after rigorous auditing process, it has achieved a combined ISO 9001 Quality Management System (QMS)  and ISO 14001 Environmental Management System (EMS) certification in December 2015 from a UK based UKAS (United Kingdom Accreditation Service) accredited Certification body.
COMESA/LLPI, through a rigid application of the internationally recognized benchmark of QMS and EMS into all facets of its operations, is committed to strive continually for operational excellence as well as sensible environmental responsibility and corporate accountability.

As LLPI becomes global player, the envisioned impact of this certification is an assurance of high quality service delivery to Member States, the private sector (including SMEs) and the Academia fraternity in the region and Africa as a whole.

COMESA/LLPI Joins the International Union of Leather Technologists and Chemists Societies ( IULTCS)

COMESA-Leather and Leather Products Institute (COMESA/LLPI), a Chartered and autonomous Leather Wing of COMESA,  is Proud to announce that it has become a full member of the International Union of Leather Technologists and Chemists Societies (IULTCS). 

IULTCS is a world-wide organization of professional societies, originally organized in London in 1897. The Union currently has 19 Member Societies and 7 Associate Members representing more than 300 individual members. The aims of the  IULTCS  are to foster cooperation between member societies, to hold congresses to further the advancement of leather science and technology, to form commissions for special studies and to establish international methods of samples and testing leather and materials associated with leather manufacture.

EUCLID University partnering with COMESA-LLPI won first prize for 2016 United Nations World Interfaith Harmony Week

EUCLID University as a lead campaigner of the Interfaith Harmony Week partnered with COMESA/LLPI amongst others won the 1st Global Prize (UN Resolution Award) from over 83 applicants from over 800 events held all over the world participating during the World Interfaith Harmony Week as announced by the Organizing Judges of HM King Abdalla Jordan Prize - WIHW 2016! We are proud of all the participants and event winners!!!

Executive Director of COMESA/LLPI has been appointed as Member of the Scientific Committee for the Year 2017 IULTCS Conference

Prof. Mwinyikione Mwinyihija, Executive Director of COMESA/LLPI, has been appointed as the Scientific Committee member for the 2017 IULTCS Conference.

The mandate of the Scientific Committee is to affirm all the presentation that will be made during the Conference do meet the objectives. The Committee also provides scientific backing for the general Congress.

The International Union of Leather Technologists and Chemists Societies has the task to encourage and develop the interchange of knowledge and experience between leather technologists and chemists worldwide by increasing the collaboration between member societies. The Indian affiliate to IULTCS - Indian Leather Technologists Association (ILTA) and CSIR-Central Leather Research Institute would jointly organize the XXXIV IULTCS Congress during 5-8 February 2017.

The main aims and objectives of ICT therefore can be summarised as:

  1. To provide a forum for members to meet and exchange views and information including the exchange statistics and market information;
  2. To provide an interface with international bodies such as:
    1. ICHSLTA – International Council of Hide, Skin & Leather Traders Associations
    2. UNIDO – United Nations Industrial Development Organisation
    3. FAO – Food and Agriculture of the United Nations
    4. UNEP – United Nations Environmental Programme
    5. ISO – the International Standards Organisation
    6. IULTCS – International Union of Leather Technologists and Chemists Societies
    7. COTANCE – Confederation of National Associations of Tanners and Dressers of the European Community
  3. To collaborate with ICHSLTA to maintain and develop the International Leather Contracts to promote a fair and ethical basis for trade in the sector
  4. Protect and promote leather as a product by providing information, developing the website and producing position papers to counter threats to the industry
  5. Support improvements in the supply, treatment and preservation of hides and skins
  6. Promote free trade in hides, skins and leather as far as practically possible
  7. To undertake, or commission, reviews and research on matters pertaining to the industry and to disseminate the results to members and, where appropriate, more widely
  8. To assist members in negotiations with Regulatory Agencies on a national, regional, or global basis as called for, using any appropriate means
  9. To engage in any other activity that is to the advantage of members.
